Football Pitch Irrigation
An irrigation system for your football pitch is a must if as a groundsman you want to achieve a high quality playing surface all year round. During May 2003 Scunthorpe United Football Club did exactly that adding to the list of professional football clubs having a fully automatic watering system installed by MWT.
| 90mm MDPE mains pipe work was installed around the perimeter of the pitch forming a ring main with two 63mm MDPE pipe work spurs connecting the ring main to the centre sprinklers installed within the pitch. All the pipe work was installed using a vibrating mole leaving minimal disturbance to the pitch surface (see picture left). | |

An electro-fusion welder was used to make all pipe work connection giving
life long durable joints, a process of melting and fusing the two ends of
the pipe together with couplers, elbows and tee pieces. The pipe work and cable were installed at a depth of between 18" - 24" giving easy clearance for any above ground remedial works, such as verti-draining. |

The system comprises of ten gear driven pop-up sprinklers with electric
valve-in-head positioned around the perimeter of the pitch operating in
pairs and two centre grass buckets (with real turf) impact driven full
circle pop-up sprinklers installed in the centre of the pitch (see picture
left). The system is supplied by a vertical multi-stage pump unit and controlled by an automatic irrigation controller located underneath the stand. |
